A lesson in the value of overcoming
obstacles. As a young toddler, Helen Keller falls ill with a high fever that robs her of her sight and hearing, cutting her off from human
communication. As Helen grows into a child, she becomes wild and unruly. Mr. and Mrs. Keller are left with no choice but to seek help from
somewhere else. Mrs. Keller hears about a special school for the blind and deaf and hires twenty-one-year-old Anne Sullivan to teach Helen Keller.
When Anne arrives at the Keller household, she implores them to allow Helen to be alone with her so she can focus Helen’s attention on
learning to behave. Finally, Mr. Keller agrees to let them use the garden house for one week. Anne tries all week for Helen Keller to understand the
words she spells into her hand. At the end of the week, Anne knows she’s made some progress, but not enough. As Mr. and Mrs. Keller come
up the walk, Anne finally gets through to Helen when she learns what W-A-T-E-R is. Helen understands! With the help of her patient and
determined teacher, Helen Keller is successful in overcoming obstacles and learns to communicate. Includes 48-page activity book.
